WHEREAS IN 1872, J STERLING MORTON PROPOSED THE NEBRASKA BOARD OF AGRICULTURE THAT A SPECIAL DAY BE SET ASIDE FOR THE PLANTING OF TREES, AND WHEREAS A HOLIDAY CALLED ARBOR DAY WAS FIRST OBSERVED WITH THE PLANTING OF MORE THAN A MILLION TREES IN NEBRASKA.

WHEREAS ARBOR DAY IS NOW OBSERVED THROUGHOUT THE NATION AND THE WORLD.

WHEREAS TREES CAN REDUCE THE EROSION OF OUR PRECIOUS TOPSOIL BY WIND, WATER, CUT HEATING AND COOLING COSTS, MODERATE THE TEMPERATURE, CLEAN THE AIR, PRODUCE OXYGEN, AND PROVIDE HABITAT FOR WILDLIFE.

WHEREAS TREES ARE A RENEWABLE RESOURCE GIVING US PAPER, WOOD FOR HOMES, FUEL FOR OUR FIRES, AND COUNTLESS OTHER WOOD PRODUCTS.

WHEREAS TREES IN OUR CITY INCREASE PROPERTY VALUES, ENHANCE THE ECONOMIC VITALITY OF BUSINESS AREAS, AND BEAUTIFY OUR COMMUNITY, AND WHEREAS TREES, WHEREVER THEY ARE PLANTED, ARE A SOURCE OF JOY AND SPIRITUAL RENEWAL.

THIS IS OUR FOURTH YEAR CELEBRATING BUILDING SAFETY MONTH.

LIKE LAST YEAR, STAFF FROM OUR LICENSING, PERMITTING AND BUILDING SAFETY DIVISIONS AND THE COMMUNITY DEVELOP DEPARTMENT WILL ATTEND THE LENEXA'S CITY MARKET, THE FARMERS MARKET.

WE WILL HAVE A TABLE SET UP MAY 14TH AND 18TH TO MEET WITH THE PUBLIC, WHERE WE WILL BE ANSWERING QUESTIONS AND INTERACTING WITH THE PUBLIC TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT OUR PROFESSION.

THE THEME THIS YEAR FOR 2024 IS ASYLUM HEROES, CODES THAT KEEP YOU SAFE.

WITH THE HELP OF OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT, WE HAVE SEVERAL FORMS OF COMMUNICATION THAT WILL BE DISSEMINATED TO RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES, TOWN TALK, DIGITAL NEWSLETTERS, AND OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES.

IN THIS TOWN TALK SUBSCRIPTION NEXT MONTH, WE ADDRESS HOW CODES KEEP OUR CITIZENS SAFE IN SEVERAL AREAS SUCH AS SOLAR INSTALLATIONS, WHICH IS BECOMING POPULAR, PLACEMENT OF ELECTRICAL OUTLETS IN YOUR HOMES, SIZE FOR RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICAL SERVICES DUE TO THE POTENTIAL DEMAND FOR ELECTRICAL VEHICLE CHARGING SYSTEMS THAT'S COMING UP IN OUR FUTURES.

A LOT OF THESE PANELS ARE AT MAX, ALREADY AT 200 AND THE COMMUNITY NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT IF THEY HOOK A CHARGING STATION UP TO IT, THEY MIGHT EXCEED THEIR AMPERAGE FOR THEIR SERVICE PANEL.

RESIDENTIAL MECHANICAL SYSTEM, SIZE AND LOCATIONS OF DOORS AND WINDOWS, OUTDOOR KITCHENS THAT ARE GROWING IN POPULARITY, ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND INSULATION REQUIREMENTS.

WHEN WE ATTEND THE FARMER'S MARKET, STAFF WILL ANSWER QUESTIONS FROM OUR CITIZENS ABOUT THE PROJECTS THAT WE REQUIRE BUILDING PERMITS FOR.

WE WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS CONCERNING SOME OF THE MORE COMMON PROJECTS SUCH AS WATER HEATERS HEATING, COOLING SYSTEM, SWIMMING POOLS, DECK BASEMENT FINISHES, VENTS, OUTDOOR PATIOS, AND ROOM ADDITIONS.

THIS PROJECT IS IN CITY CENTER, AND THIS PARTICULAR SITE IS LOCATED AT RENNER AND 87TH.

YOU CAN SEE HERE IT IS IN THE YELLOW AREA ON THIS AERIAL IMAGE.

THIS IS JUST TO THE SOUTH OF THE HOSPITAL SITE THAT'S CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND NORTH OF WESTBOUND 87TH STREET.

YOU CAN SEE ON THE MAP HERE THAT THE SITE IS ZONED CC IN PINK AND IT'S OUTLINED IN RED.

OUR FUTURE LAND USE MAP WITHIN THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN CALLS THIS OUT AS CITY CENTER CORE, AND BOTH THE ZONING AND THE FUTURE LAND USE MAP ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE PROPOSED PLANS FOR THE ADVENT HEALTH BUILDING 2A.

THIS FINAL PLAN IS FOR ONE THREE-STORY BUILDING, AND IT DOES INCLUDE MEDICAL OFFICES, AND IT'S APPROXIMATELY 66,000 SQUARE FEET.

THE FIRST PHASE OF A THREE-LEVEL PARKING GARAGE WILL BE CONSTRUCTED WITH THIS,

AS MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY, IT'S GOING TO SHARE PARKING WITH WHAT IS CONSTRUCTED AS PART OF THE 2A DEVELOPMENT WE JUST APPROVED.

THERE IS A NEW PUBLIC AMENITY SPACE AT THE CORNER OF 87TH AND SCARBOROUGH.

AS I MENTIONED WITH THE LAST PLAN THAT DRIVE AISLE JUST TO THE NORTH OF THIS BUILDING, I'LL POINT THAT OUT HERE WITH MY CURSOR, THAT WAS MOVED SOUTH JUST A LITTLE BIT, AND THAT RESULTED IN THE ENTIRE BUILDING SHIFTING SOUTH SO THAT AMENITY SPACE HAS SHRUNK A LITTLE BIT.

HOWEVER, THEY ARE STILL RETAINING THAT AREA FOR SOME OUTDOOR SEATING POTENTIALLY.

THERE'S SOME GREAT STAIRS BECAUSE OF SOME GRADE CHANGE THERE, SO IT MIGHT BE A FUN PLACE JUST TO SIT AND PEOPLE WATCH AS WELL, JUST ON THOSE STAIRS THERE.

HOW WE ACCOMPLISH THAT IS THE STRATEGIES, AND WE'VE GOT FIVE STRATEGIES IDENTIFIED THAT COVER THE GAMUT OF SUSTAINABILITY.

THE FIRST ONE TALKS ABOUT RENEWABLE ENERGY.

THAT IS ESSENTIALLY A VERY QUICK SUMMARY OF THE CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE.

LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE, I'M VERY HAPPY WITH THE CHANGES THAT HAVE BEEN MADE.

WE THINK THEY REALLY IMPROVE THE PLAN.
